Olfactometer

This system employs the detection threshold of eight human panelists to calculate the odour concentration of environmental air samples.
Typically, this equipment would be used to measure nuisance odour plumes as from landfills, sewage treatment plants, fermentation facilities, and large animal agriculture operations.
Samples are pressurized and pushed though a custom-designed all-stainless-steel flow metering system with no moving or heated parts. Panelists are presented with different samples, and their responses are entered into keypads.
The custom-designed software controls the presentation sequence, logs all data, and calculates the sample odour concentration.

Sample Vessel
A “re-purposed”  autoclave is used as a containment vessel for the sample. Positive pressure on the outside of the bag pushes air through the metering system without contamination.

Metering System
The custom-designed “binary fixed rate” metering system allows for flows from 1 to 12,000 ml/min of sample gas. The system is all stainless steel construction with PTFE-seated valves. It contains no moving or heated parts.
